If there is something in the Racine area community that needs to be done, chances are Kiwanis Club of West Racine members are pitching in! Here is a sampling of the many projects and activities you’ll find us involved in throughout the year.
Park High School Key Club Sponsor
We are proud to sponsor the Key Club at Racine’s Washington Park High School. Part of Kiwanis International, Key Club is a student-led organization that provides its members with opportunities to provide service, build character and develop leadership skills. Through this partnership, these local high school students are making a positive impact as they serve others in their school and community.
Racine Memorial Day Parade
Our club plays a part in the City of Racine’s annual Memorial Day observance. Members distribute miniature U.S. flags to spectators along the parade route. Kiwanians, who are armed services veterans, are honored by riding in the parade.
Adopt-a-Park
As participants in the City of Racine’s “Adopt-A-Park” program, our members regularly pick up litter at N. Owens Davies Park in a West Racine neighborhood.
Partnerships With The Salvation Army-Racine
Through long-standing partnerships with The Salvation Army-Racine, our club helps brighten the Christmas holidays for local families. Our members raise cash as Red Kettle Campaign bell-ringers and donate dozens of toys for the Angel Tree gift program.
Reality Check Day
Our members assist with Reality Check Day, an annual one-day, hand-on personal finance workshop for Racine Unified high school students that is coordinated by Educators Credit Union.
Tri-County Olympics
Held each summer, the Tri-County Olympics is an afternoon of indoor fun, organized activities for area nursing home residents. Our members help with the set-up and operating the various games that bring smiles to dozens of faces.
Monthly HALO Meal
Peanut Day and the 4-H Clubs Recognition Dinner
Each October, we partner with local 4-H Club members and local businesses to distribute bags of peanuts and collect donations on Peanut Day at select locations throughout Racine County. Peanuts may also be purchased in bulk and donated to Operation Support Our Troops America (OSOTA).
Peanut Day sale proceeds are used to host an annual recognition dinner for Racine County 4-H Clubs members.
Ongoing Fun and Service
The Kiwanis spirit of fun – and service – continues at our weekly meeting as members contribute cash to fund food baskets for those in need and put money in “The Box” for personal milestones, accomplishments and jokes. Our club has also earned the Kiwanis Round Robin recognition by meeting monthly with other Kiwanis Clubs since 1987!
